SIMPLE SAZERAC
A New Orleans Tradition
This whiskey treat is thought to be America's first cocktail. The simplified version is the way I have seen them made at high-volume bars in the French Quarter. It is also the featured drink in the over-the-hill jazz funeral scene in Entry-Level.
Ingredients
-
Chilled highball glass
-
1.5 - 3.0 ounces rye whiskey
-
Absinthe
-
Peychaud's bitters
-
1/2 tsp simple syrup
Preparation
-
Place a highball glass in the icebox ahead of time for chilling
-
Stir the simple syrup, rye, and 3-5 dashes of bitters in a shaker with ice
-
Coat the chilled highball glass with a splash of absinthe by swirling
-
Strain the shaker in to the chilled highball glass and garnish with lemon peel
